This is an exciting opportunity to explore an increasingly shared international interest – the outward facing role of the school at the heart of learning and well-being in the community. Throughout the conference, international delegates will be mentored by Professor George Otero, Director of the Centre for Relational Learning, New Mexico, and co-author of Schools and Communities: working together to transform children’s lives.

Conference programme

This study tour and conference will give delegates:

• Insight into excellent practice in community engagement in a number of different countries
• Practical approaches and solutions to planning community programmes
• Awareness and evidence of how building social capital raises aspiration and achievement
• Knowledge of strategies for engagement with the community
• Tools for evaluating the impact of community strategies

• Maggie Farrar, Operational Director, Every Child Matters and Standards, National College of School Leadership, and co-author of Schools and Communities: working together to transform children’s lives.
• Professor Ted Cantle, Executive Chair of the Institute of Community Cohesion, former Chair of the Community Cohesion Review Team
• Sir Keith Ajegbo, author of the Curriculum Review: diversity and citizenship and Chair of Schools Linking Network
• Alan Tuckett, Director of the National Institute for Adult Continuing Education

The study tour will be held on 9-10 June 2008 at four schools in London and  the conference will be held on 11-12 June 2008 at the Radisson SAS Hotel, London Stansted. The fee per delegate is £735.
