Leading school effectiveness and innovation in Wales: the power of networking

The first iNet Wales National Conference is a celebration of the achievements of schools in Wales and an opportunity to explore school-based innovation taking place nationally. The conference agenda has been designed to include thought-provoking keynote and workshop sessions as a starting point for discussions on leading effective and innovative schools in Wales into the 21st century.

By attending the conference, you will engage in the core aspects of the personalising learning agenda and contribute to the debate on how we can re-think learning, leadership, support and experience for all students within the context of Wales. The workshops will be led by educators who are at the forefront of cutting-edge practice in:

• Curriculum redesign - How can the curriculum be redesigned to prepare students for the 21st century? What knowledge, skills and understanding do young people need for the future world of work and how can they be delivered within the curriculum?
• Teaching and learning - How can new technologies enhance the teaching and learning experience? How can formative assessment strategies and thinking skills be embedded in the classroom to gain better insights into student learning and achievement?
• Student leadership and student voice - How can learning and support for students be redesigned in partnership through co-construction, student voice and student leadership? How can international school links be used to provide students with an understanding of the opportunities they have in a global employment market?
• School effectiveness and leadership development - How can school-based professional development be used to encourage leadership and innovative practice at all levels? How can leadership capacity be developed in schools at a time when trends indicate a growing shortage of school leaders?

Keynote Speaker

The workshops will be complemented by a keynote from Professor Dylan Wiliam who will challenge and inspire you to take ideas back to school to redesign the education of the young people that you serve.

Originally from Cardiff, Dylan is now Deputy Director and Professor of Educational Assessment at the Institute of Education, University of London. Dylan’s recently published Embedding Formative Assessment Professional Development Training Pack is a result of a 10 year research programme. His work has particular relevance in Wales, as schools further develop strategies to implement the revised curriculum.
