International workshop for school principals

Speaker at Beijing conference iNet in partnership with the National Academy of Education Administration (NAEA) and with the support of HSBC has broken new ground organising its first conference in China. iNet and NAEA assembled, a group of 100 outstanding principals from fourteen countries which met in Beijing, China.

The purpose of the conference was to discuss the transformation of and innovation in the world’s education systems and to develop an agenda for future schooling.

Rather than a traditional conference, the event consisted of a small number of keynote presenters, with most of the time spent in working sessions addressing particular topics leading to particular outcomes and recommendations. The key themes were supported by world leading academics who worked alongside the conference participants to explore the issues raised by our academic team.

I felt very honoured and privileged to be in the presence of such an amazing and visionary group of educational leaders. Being part of the workshop was both inspiring as well as challenging and an empowering experience which I have not stopped talking about since I returned to Australia.

At the end of each day the key issues and recommendations that each of the workshop groups had discussed were synthesized and a report produced so that all conference participants were clear on each others discussions. On the final day each group presented to the conference drawing together their key recommendations. This thinking was brought together in the form of a mutually agreed and unanimously endorsed communiqué. This will be circulated around the world.

Next steps

iNet recognizes the inequity in education systems around the world and seeks to play a part in redressing the balance through the development of an inclusive international network of educators and students that recognize the opportunities provided by collaborating internationally and thinking globally.

Equipped with the vision, the knowledge, and the network, iNet serves as a powerful tool to help schools meet the challenge of preparing global citizens by supporting schools to learn from each other, to exchange and share best practices, to participate in the global discourse of education innovation and transformation, and to engage students in rich and meaningful dialogues with each other. iNet educators recognize that globalisation and the digital revolution have already transformed the lives of billions of people, it has began to redefine what skills are valuable for living and learning in a global and digital world.

iNet recognizes the critical role that school leaders will play in this transformational process. iNet seeks to cultivate and support leadership, through the design of international qualifications in educational leadership, specific workshops, conferences, and most importantly networking of like-minded leaders and visionary thinkers. It is through these processes that iNet seeks to develop courageous and innovative leaders who think globally but act locally leading transformation in their schools. It is also hoped that this unique network of 100 outstanding principals will collaborate together in the future using iNet as a platform.
