We are delighted to announce details of our annual international conference which is being held in Birmingham in England. This year we are joining the SSAT’s 16th National Conference which attracts over 2000 delegates and some of the world’s leading educational speakers, academics and policy makers.

By combining our conferences we hope to bring a global dimension to the conference themes:

• Redesigning learning – developing a 21st century pedagogy with particular emphasis on formative assessment, student leadership, competence-based curriculum and creativity
• Redesigning schooling – a focus on merging of phases, flexible age cohorts, design of buildings, curriculum, flexible time schedules, smaller units within schools and academic / pastoral divide
• Redesigning leadership – exploring how to lead schools effectively in the 21st century, including governance, executive headship, succession planning and distributing leadership

This conference will be our most ambitious to date and will provide school leaders from around the world the opportunity to show how they are leading the transformation of education. Our aim is to challenge and inspire, but most importantly to give practical examples of work that makes a difference to the learning experience of every child from 3 to 19 years wherever they are educated.

Booking information

The three-day conference package costs £498 + VAT. This is an extension of the early booking rate for international delegates only. How international delegates can get involved in the conference

International school showcases at the conference
The response to our call for international showcases was overwhelming with over 50 applications. The selection panel has met and we will have showcases from Wales and Northern Ireland, Australia and New Zealand, Mauritius and Chile. Details of the showcases will be available shortly.

iNet study tour prior to the conference
A study tour is available prior to the conference on Monday 24 – Tuesday 25 November 2008. Based near Birmingham, the study tour is an opportunity to explore a variety of different schools – all offering innovative practice. By visiting these schools you will see the English education system in context before you attend the conference, as well as forming international links. The study tour costs £350 per person. International partnership fair
At this year’s conference you can take part in the international partnership fair, where you will have the opportunity to meet delegates from around the world and share information about your school and projects. This unique networking opportunity will take place on each of the conference days so you can create international school partnerships. Book your place by Friday 3 October.

Awards at the conference

The awards are an opportunity to celebrate excellence and innovation in affiliated schools. There are seven awards this year, five of which are open for schools outside of England. These are:

• The Chief Executive’s Award -  for the school that has made the most significant contribution to enhancing opportunities for its Family of Schools
• The Chairman’s  Award – for the school that has made the most significant contribution to sustainable education
  
• The MMM Award – For the school demonstrating the most creative and innovative use of communication within school
• The Rolls Royce Award – for the school demonstrating achievement in engineering and manufacturing
• The SSAT ICT System Redesign Award – for the school demonstrating the most innovative use of ICT to support System Redesign

The deadline for all applications is Wednesday 17 September 2008.
