On 29th January 2007 the Mauritian Ministry of Education and Human Resources took the ‘epoch-making’ decision to affiliate each one of its 450 primary and secondary schools to iNet in order to support its educational reforms.

Educational reform in Mauritius

The Ministry of Education and Human Resources recently outlined a new approach to education in order to address global changes. The expected outcomes of this educational reform include:

• Higher achievement by students in subjects which are more relevant to the modern world
• Students becoming more independent learners, with an enthusiasm for generating new knowledge and entrepreneurship
• International recognition of Mauritian qualifications to aid the employability of students after graduation

iNet will play an important role within the reform movement. It will establish a system where strong schools are able to help weaker ones. Schools will be given the freedom to be creative, and will adapt to cope with a range of external influences.

Mauritius is the first country to affiliate all of its schools and is one of the world’s most successful multi-cultural communities. It is well-placed to contribute to a global network of schools committed to transformation.
