Nominate your outstanding future leaders

The developing leaders programme seeks to address the growing need to develop leadership capacity in schools at a time when trends indicate a growing shortage of school leaders. It will provide teachers in your school with the skills, knowledge and confidence to drive education agendas forward, and at the same time fast-track their professional development.

There are currently two cohorts of developing leaders running in Wales.  Building on the success of cohort 1 launched in September 2007, a further 60 developing leaders joined the programme in September 2008.  To nominate an outstanding future leader from your school to join cohort 3, email developingleaderswales@ssatrust.org.uk 

Accreditation is available in year two of the programme with participants receiving 60 CATS points at Masters level through our partnership with the University of Wales Institute Cardiff (UWIC), Universit of Bangor and Trinity University College.

What is the developing leaders programme?

A two year leadership development programme for secondary school teachers with up to seven years' experience. It addresses a broad range of leadership skills to support the personalising learning agenda in Wales.

What are the aims of the programme?

• To bring developing leaders together in order to develop a network of support
• To enable participants to learn alongside headteachers and developing leaders in innovative schools to gain skills, knowledge and insights from good practice
• To engage with world class thinkers in education to gain national and international perspectives and understanding of the key issues affecting school performance
• To provide an opportunity for teachers at an early stage of their careers to understand the school structures, systems and strategies for leading change and to examine the characteristics of successful innovative practices
• To share innovation projects across the cohort
• To develop the leadership skills needed for schools of the future and to understand the link between successful leadership and school improvement
